Dial Gauges (or Indicators) are used to accurately measure small distances, and often used in setting up machines such as lathes etc. A small version, also known as a Finger Gauges measures the displacement of a sensitive finger then converts this to a linear distance.
Dial Gauges (Indicators) are frequently used to check the variation in tolerances in the inspection process of a machined part. Dial Gauges (Indicators) usually measure ranges from 0.25 mm to 300 mm with graduations of 0.001 mm to 0.01 mm.
Tolerances and requirements for dial gauges are specified in Australian Standard AS2103.
Metrology equipment of any sort should not be subjected to impact such as being dropped as they are easily damaged or become inaccurate.
METROLOGY EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS
There are a wide range of different types of metrology equipment each with a host of applications. Although such equipment is in most cases robust, users need to ensure their equipment remain in good working order and accurate.
METROLOGY EQUIPMENT CALIBRATION PROCEDURES
Metrology equipment items are first cleaned and then checked to ensure that they are not damaged. They are then examined for accuracy over the range of use in accordance with the specific Standard or to specific manufacturer’s requirements if stated.
CMS uses calibrated state-of-the-art master equipment to verify that metrology equipment is measuring within requirements and adjusted if required.
Metrology equipment items are returned to clients with a comprehensive calibration report within three working days of receipt.
