Our Steel Rule Calibration Services

The steel rule is a basic measuring tool but when used correctly is surprisingly accurate.

Most steel rules are made by a photoengraving process. A photosensitive resist is exposed through a master negative then an etching process is used to form the graduations.

Steel rules are usually made from stainless steel with a low coefficient of expansion and in a wide variety of sizes.

The Standard governing steel rules is BS 4372 “Specification for Engineer’s Steel Measuring Rules”.

Metrology equipment of any sort should not be subjected to impact such as being dropped as they are easily damaged or become inaccurate.

Metrology Equipment Applications

There are a wide range of different types of metrology equipment each with a host of applications.  Although such equipment is in most cases robust, users need to ensure their equipment remain in good working order and accurate.

Metrology Equipment Calibration Procedures

Metrology equipment items are first cleaned and then checked to ensure that they are not damaged. They are then examined for accuracy over the range of use in accordance with the specific Standard or to specific manufacturer’s requirements if stated.

CMS uses calibrated state-of-the-art master equipment to verify that metrology equipment is measuring within requirements and adjusted if required.
